RAZR Employee Onboarding Experience

RAZR Marketing Inc. is an advertising agency in the healthcare, finance and consumer goods industry. They were looking to optimize their onboarding process to better prepare new employees and reduce turnover. I led a 3-step process to better understand employee pain points and opportunities during the first 100 days of employment.

Step 1 - Immerse

Engaged in 12 current employee interviews to dig deeper into their experience with the onboarding process. Questions probed their experience from pre-start day through the first 100 days of employment and covered all aspects of needs and wants as it pertains to starting with a new company.

Step 2 - Crystallize

Confirmed the onboarding processes and practices with Department Managers:

  • What role specific or department-level training do you provide for your new employees?

  • What tools or documentation (if any) to you provide to support their onboarding?

  • How do you aid in helping your new employees feel connected with your team?

Step 3 - Synthesize

What do we now know to be true?

Synthesized research data into insights which led to the development of the onboarding journey. The journey from pre-first day through 100 days included flow of information and ownership, onboarding steps and actions and pain points within each stage.

Opportunity Analysis

Review of pain points and opportunities within each stage were presented to the stakeholder team to take into consideration when developing the final onboarding process. Since it’s implementation, ~25 new employees have gone through the process and overall employee satisfaction has increased.
